Veterinary Services in Lompoc, CA
At Village Vet Clinic, we provide a wide range of services to care for your pet. We offer everything from routine check-ups and vaccinations to more complex medical procedures. Our experienced team of veterinarians and staff are dedicated to providing the best possible care for your furry friend.
Wellness
Many of your pet’s health issues can be avoided with regular physical examinations, which is why we recommend that your pet receives a complete physical exam with us once to twice yearly, depending on their age and existing health issues. During the wellness examination, we obtain a thorough medical history and perform a comprehensive physical exam. Using our exam and your pet’s history, we then provide preventative care and treatment recommendations that can extend and improve your pet’s quality of life, as well as address your questions or concerns regarding their health. Vaccinations against common preventable diseases round out our annual visit. We base our vaccination protocol on the patient’s individual needs and exposures.

Puppy and Kitten Visits: Please plan to spend about 45 minutes with us during your puppy or kitten’s first visit! During this time, we discuss nutrition, formulate an individual vaccination plan based on age, lifestyle, and previous vaccination history, discuss behavior and ways to safely socialize your new pet, and future preventative care recommendations based on their (and your) lifestyle.
Health Certificates: Our veterinarians are USDA certified to issue health certificates for domestic and international travel. Many foreign countries and some states have very specific travel requirements, so if you plan to travel with your pet, please contact us as soon as possible so we can make sure these requirements are met and schedule appointments for any needed vaccinations, testing, microchipping, and health certificates.
Senior Wellness: It is recommended that senior dogs and cats be examined at least every 6 months to better screen for age-related health problems. We also offer senior lab screening and diagnostic imaging, multimodal pain control to address arthritis, such as Librela, NSAIDs, use of medical laser, and others, joint, cognitive, and organ support through diet and supplements, and lifestyle adjustments to better accommodate your aging pet’s needs.
Sick Visits
During office hours, we are fully equipped and ready to help with your emergency and critical care needs. If you find that you need emergency assistance after hours, we recommend either PETS Hospital ER/Urgent Care, Central Coast Pet Emergency Clinic, or Advanced Veterinary Specialists. They are available when we are closed and we trust them to provide quality care. For existing clients only, we offer a limited after-hours on-call line.
For your convenience, we have provided the contact and website information for both after-hours locations here.

Surgery
Our veterinarians are trained to perform a variety of soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries in our state-of-the-art surgical suite. We offer laser surgery and electrocautery which can decrease bleeding, swelling and pain, and increase surgical precision. Patients receive pre-anesthetic blood testing, IV fluids during and after surgery, comprehensive monitoring of all vitals during and after surgery, and multimodal pain control to maximize comfort and safety. We treat each pet as an individual.

Surgical Procedures: In addition to spay and neuter surgery, our doctors are trained to perform a variety of soft tissue and orthopedic procedures to diagnose and treat many conditions. These include: mass/tumor removal, intestinal surgery (foreign body removal, gastropexy, intestinal biopsies, intestinal resection), splenectomy, liver biopsy, cystotomy to remove bladder stones, gallbladder surgery, BOAS surgery (to correct airway disease in bulldog breeds), entropion (certain eyelid malformations), cherry eye, anal gland removal (for tumors or recurrent infections), limb amputation, certain fracture repairs, and FHO (femoral head excision). In some cases, we may refer to a specialized surgical facility or call in a specially trained mobile surgeon.
Postoperative Care: At surgical discharge, you will meet with a veterinarian or veterinary nurse to discuss your pet’s home care needs including pain control, antibiotics, sedatives, and diet and exercise changes, when appropriate. Written home care instructions are also provided for all procedures.
Pain Control: Multimodal pain control is used and is tailored to each patient’s needs. This may include presurgical opiate and anti-inflammatory injections, local anesthetic to help numb the surgical site, transdermal pain patches, IV infusions during and after surgery, and oral medications to go home.
Anesthesia: Individual anesthetic plans are formulated for each pet based on their age, breed, and the type of procedure. On the day of surgery, your pet will receive a physical exam. During the procedure, all vitals are closely monitored using state of the art equipment. All patients are monitored closely in recovery.
Dentistry
As part of your pet’s annual wellness exam, our veterinarians evaluate their dental health and may recommend a Complete Oral Health Assessment and Treatment (COHAT). They will also discuss home care options to help maintain oral health between visits. Untreated periodontal disease is painful and can result in damage to other organs such as the heart, liver, and kidneys. COHAT procedures are performed in-house under balanced general anesthesia to allow us to completely and safely evaluate your pet’s mouth. During this procedure we scale and polish above and below the gumline to remove odor and disease-causing bacteria and calculus. We have a digital dental radiography unit (x-ray) to immediately evaluate tooth roots and are proficient in both simple and surgical dental extractions, should they be necessary.
Learn More
- Digital dental x-ray provides an immediate high-resolution image of the entire tooth and the surrounding jaw (this is the same technology your dentist uses to perform dental x-rays)
- Bonded sealant can be used to protect minor tooth fractures, which can allow the tooth time to naturally repair itself and prevent the need for extraction
- Dentalaire unit for scaling, polishing, high speed drill
- Bupivacaine nerve blocks are used to numb extraction sites for balanced pain control
Diagnostics
At Village Vet Clinic, we understand that your pet is like a member of the family. That’s why we offer comprehensive pet diagnostics to ensure that your pet is healthy and happy. Our team of experienced veterinarians uses the latest technology to provide accurate and reliable results, including digital full-body x-ray, complete in-house and send-out lab, and limited diagnostic ultrasound. Whether you’re looking for a routine check-up or need to diagnose a more serious condition, we’re here to help. Visit us today at our clinic in Lompoc, CA.

Digital Radiography: Our state-of-the-art digital x-ray unit allows us to quickly obtain high-resolution images to more accurately evaluate both bone and soft tissue structures, and the option to submit these images to a Board Certified Veterinary Radiologist for review.
Ultrasound: Some of our veterinarians have received extensive continuing education training in diagnostic abdominal ultrasound, a non-invasive way to evaluate the internal structure of the abdominal organs to better diagnose and treat your pet. We also offer limited cardiac ultrasound.
Lab: Our in-house laboratory is equipped to provide fast, accurate test results for your pet. Most testing is completed within 30 minutes. We are also supported by a full-service veterinary laboratory. We have twice-daily pickups and get many results in less than 24 hours.
Theriogenology (Reproductive Medicine)
Responsible breeding is an important part of veterinary care, which is why we offer a variety of reproductive services for our canine and feline breeders. Some of our veterinarians are trained in fertility evaluation, artificial insemination, pregnancy ultrasound and X-ray, pre- and post-whelping care and nutrition, and C-section surgery. We also offer same day, in-house progesterone testing. It is recommended that you schedule an appointment early so we can better support you and your pet throughout this journey.
Small Mammals & Exotics
We understand that not everyone is a ‘cat person’ or a ‘dog person’, which is why we also provide comprehensive and caring veterinary care for rabbits, other small mammals, and most reptiles. During each appointment, our doctors will evaluate your pet’s overall health with a full physical exam and discuss how to optimize their environment and nutrition so they can live a healthy, happy life.
